What is PTE?
Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a computer-based international English proficiency exam for students who are looking to study abroad or seeking immigration. It is used to evaluate the language skills of non-native English speakers. Countries like Australia, New Zealand and other thousands of prestigious universities accept PTE. Unlike the traditional grading system, the exam is driven by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and is fully objective and free of human prejudice. It is also less time-consuming and the total duration for PTE test is 3 hours. Within 48 hours of giving the test, the results are accessible. Candidates must first register for the exam online and attend it in an authorized PTE Centre. The test assesses the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and provides a score based on the GSE (Global Scale of English). The PTE scores range from a band 10 to a band 90.

Four Sections of PTE:
– Speaking and Writing: PTE Speaking & Writing test is 77-93 minutes long. The questions in these sections are like personal introduction, describe pictures, read aloud, re-tell lecture, short question answer, repeat sentences, summarize written text, Essay in which 20 minutes is allocated.
– Reading: PTE Reading test is 32-41 minutes. In this section, questions like reorder paragraphs fill in the blanks, multiple-choice questions are asked.
– Listening: PTE Listening test is 45-57 minutes long. In this section, a question like fill in the blanks, select the missing words, highlight incorrect words, multiple-choice questions, write from dictation, etc. are asked.
PTE Test Format
PTE General Test: People who wish to go abroad for employment or training take the PTE General test. It doesn’t expire after the result.
PTE Academic Test: People who are interested in studying in universities/colleges abroad take the PTE Academic test. The PTE Academic test is valid for two years from the date of issue.
PTE Grading
The PTE scores range from a band 10 to a band 90. The PTE score combines the communicative and enabling skill scores to get an overall score. Under the section of Communicative skill consists of Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening and under the section of Enabling skill consists of vocabulary, oral fluency, pronunciation, written discourse, grammar, and spelling.
Candidates are scored on the basis of correct answers as well as partially accurate answers. The correct answer receives one point and the incorrect answer receives none. If the answer is only partially accurate, some points are awarded for partial credit.
