Tasmania has officially opened its 2025–26 Skilled Migration Program, welcoming skilled professionals and graduates from around the world who wish to build their future in Australia’s most liveable island state.

This year’s program comes with refined eligibility criteria, new ROI scoring updates, and increased nomination opportunities, making it one of the best times to apply for migration to Tasmania.

Key Updates for the 2025-26 Program Years

ROI Scoring System Revamp

Your Registration of Interest (ROI) is now competitively ranked and scored in real-time against a set of priority attributes based on your profile strength. This new transparent system assigns you an immediate ‘Pass’ status:

    • Gold Pass (1000+ points): Immediate invitation to apply for nomination. This priority status is specifically targeted towards critical roles.

    • Green Pass (250+ points): Provides strong priority and remains valid for invitation selection for up to 6 months.

    • Orange Pass (<250 points): May be invited based on demand, the number of available nomination places, and the competitiveness of other candidates.

Income Threshold Updates

The program has moved away from solely relying on ANZSCO skill levels to a clear, income-based eligibility focus, ensuring genuine skilled employment is rewarded:

    • Minimum Base Salary: Applicants must now demonstrate a minimum base salary of AUD $57,000 p.a. or AUD $28.85 per hour to claim key employment attributes.

    • Income is Key: Income level is now the primary factor for many attributes, not just the job title.

    • Higher-Income (TBO) Pathway: The Business Operator pathway maintains a higher income requirement of AUD $65,037 p.a.

Pathway Updates

The program has been refined to better target individuals committed to Tasmania:

    • Graduate & Established Resident pathways now receive extra weighting to retain local talent and long-term residents.

    • Remote Workers living in Tasmania for 3+ years are now eligible under the Established Resident pathway, providing flexibility for those working externally but residing locally.

    • Health, Allied Health & Education professionals can apply under the Subclass 190 visa pathway, highlighting their critical importance to the state.

    • Subclass 491 (Overseas Job Offer Pathway) has been officially closed. Overseas applicants must now apply through other specified streams, such as the Subclass 190 Health or Education Job Offer pathway.

Simplified & Transparent Process

The application journey is now clearer than ever:

    • An Updated Gateway portal is accepting new Registrations of Interest.

    • A Transparent Checklist & Scoring System provides better guidance on the strength of your profile.

    • Clearer Document Verification is enforced, with Migration Tasmania requesting specific proof (like ATO Income Statements) to ensure claims are substantiated—no more blank uploads.

Fees and Your Next Step

Nomination Fee: The service fee for nomination applications is AUD $370 + GST (AUD $407 including GST).

ROI Submission: Submitting your Registration of Interest (ROI) is Still Free!

Important Action for Past Applicants:

If you submitted an ROI before the program updates on October 6, 2025, you are strongly advised to consider withdrawing and re-submitting a new Registration of Interest. This allows you to leverage the new priority attributes and scoring system to achieve a higher ‘Pass’ status, significantly improving your chance of receiving an invitation.
