If you are planning to study abroad or even just trying to improve your English, IELTS can be a very great option for you. Getting a 7 band in IELTS is what students aspire to. Getting a good score will not only help you get visa but also helps you get into a prestigious educational institution.

IELTS Structure:
  • Listening- 4 sections; 40 questions, 30 minutes + 10 minutes transfer time
  • Reading- 3 sections; 40 questions, 3 long texts, 60 minutes
  • Writing- 2 tasks, 60 minutes
  • Speaking- 3 sections, 11-14 minutes

Here are a few tips to achieve a 7 BAND or higher in IELTS exam.

  1. Learn the structure of the test. Understand the question types, tasks, and timing of the sections.
  2. Find your strategy and practice every day. Everyone has their own learning strategy. You need to practice for at least 8 weeks to get above 7 BAND and higher in your IELTS Test. You can find online mock tests as well as past papers to practice the question types and structures.
  3. For listening: Listen to BBC News, Watch English movies and listen to English music with the intention of understanding the speeches. Listen to different accents.
  4. For reading: Read novels, newspapers, journals, and articles. This will subsequently increase your grammar and vocabulary. Improve your reading speed. When practicing the reading module at home, set yourself a timer.
  5. For Writing: Learn and memorize at least 15 new words every day. This will help you improve your vocabulary. Do not repeat words in your test as this may look like you do not have a very good command over the language. Practice your grammar as well as spelling. You’ll be negatively marked for grammatical errors; hence, you should give special focus to it as well.
  6. For speaking: There is no substitute to practicing the language. Converse with your friends and family in English and make it fun. The more you speak, the better you become. Pay attention to your pronunciation. There are no markings for accents but if the listener cannot hear your words right, it may not make sense to them.
  7. Be confident. During the speaking test, the evaluator is more looking for how confident you sound while you speak and how comfortable you are with the language. Speak slowly but comfortably. Make them believe you can speak effortlessly.
